Do women enjoy “porn” as much as men?

The answer is probably NO!
But it’s not quite as simple as that, is it? Let’s start be deciding what is truly Pornographic. My son had a DVD of one of the Saw movies, now I watched about 30 minutes of it and had to ask him to turn it off. I found it absolutely disgusting, the term torture porn has been applied to that series of films and I can see why. How can anyone get any sort of pleasure from watching people having to cut body parts off, even if it is make-believe? (even my son admitted he found it nasty)
So how about a film in which consenting adults do nice things to each other? Like having sex? I’ve watched my fair share of those types of films and I have yet to want to walk away because I found it too disturbing! Yet this kind of material is considered “pornographic”. Ok, I’m simplifying it a bit, there is a world of difference between a film like “last tango in Paris” which was fairly shocking in it’s heyday and the sexually explicit material that is now available at the click of a mouse! But the premise is the same, it’s only the fact that modern material shows penetration, ejaculation and equally intimate stuff that makes it an “adult” movie! As far as I’m concerned I’d prefer it if the legislators banned the movies that were gratuitously violent and relaxed the rules on movies with explicit sex!
But then what about scenes with BDSM? Or Golden Showers? Just because they are not to my personal taste doesn’t make them any less worthy. It’s a tricky question!
Then what about erotic writing? Truth be told I usually get far more turned on from reading the written word, probably because I can let my imagination do the work! Again, I prefer to avoid anything too violent and gratuitous, but I have undoubtedly masturbated to a good sexy book far more often than to a sexy film!
My Phil is a pretty average red blooded guy, he will watch an adult film at the drop of a hat, and if it gets him turned on then it’d be to both our advantage!! Ideally we would watch something together and BOTH get aroused, but there are times when I can quite happily leave him to his film and go and do a bit of paperwork or even a bit of ironing! Which suggests that men enjoy porn more than women if you think about it.
For the record, I prefer ” amateur” material, I would much rather see real people having sex than some silicone enhanced, cellulite-free bimbo with a hairless over endowed stud who can ejaculate coffee cup loads of semen all over the place!

  1. I totally agree with your view on torture porn, the censors have got it all wrong in allowing this sort of material to be distributed.
I suppose that I DO enjoy watching adult films with Paul, we both get aroused by what we see, we have even been known to try a few things that have inspired us! Where I am not in agreement with you is the material we watch, adult films are supposed to be a form of escapism, a fantasy, where the women are all gorgeous and sexy and the men have massive cocks and can come loads! Neither Paul or I are in the first flush of youth and while we are not obese, we could do with losing a few pounds! We see enough of our own bodies as it is, we prefer to watch “unreal” bodies in our fantasy world. But that is merely a matter of taste!!
I can only go by my own experience, but on the whole, I enjoy “porn” as much as Paul does!

  2. Agree with fully about violence being much more pornographic than mere sex.

Regarding porn, though, could it be more unrealistic and unappealing? Pornography has reduced sexuality to purely mechanical acts. There’s no humanity in it at all.

  3. Two differing points of view here: Beachcomber first, I certainly think that mainstream porn can alter a persons perception of sex and relationships, in my work I deal with people from a variety of social classes and there is no doubt that there are some younger adults who have this distorted view of what pleases a woman. As a civilisation we are blindly drifting into potentially dangerous waters at times, if we are to be free to watch porn (and I believe we should be to a certain extent) we have to educate those that are most vulnerable to having their mindset altered by what they see so that they fully understand that what they are seeing no more real than the science fiction movies they might also watch.
Happyukcouple: You obviously fall into the category of watcher who DOESN’T need educating that porn is a fantasy world. You get something from it that presumably stays within your relationship and that is good.
It is often said that with personal rights comes personal responsibilities, if are to be free to chose what we watch, read or listen to we have to accept that we are responsible for our actions.

  4. From this man’s POV: I do like a great movie, or even a set of pictures, but I must side with you with regard to the amateur content being the best. I will also be in your camp with regard to reading. I prefer to read about sex far quicker than to see it on the screen, be it silver or LCD. A porn movie is about quick gratification, the written word involves everything sexy, most importantly of which is the mind. Give me a hot well written story (grammatical errors detract from the mood) and I’ll be aroused for hours!

    • Hi TripX,nice to get a male perspective, also nice to find a guy who enjoys written erotica!
Tell me, if you can, did the women in your life have any views on adult films?

      • My wife likes to watch porn on TV, but she’s a different animal. My friend MG, is Mormon and says she doesn’t watch it, but she does enjoy a good romance novel.
